Become a Grant Panelist

Grant applications are reviewed by panels of community volunteers.

Panelists are professional artists, scholars, arts administrators, teachers of the arts and humanities, civic and business leaders, and community representatives. Grant panelists carefully review grant proposals, then meet as a group to discuss and vote on the proposals, based on a predetermined evaluation criteria.

An ideal panelist should:

  • Be open minded, respectful, and receptive to a wide variety of ideas, arguments, and information that is being presented in applications and throughout the panel process.

  • Be active community members; panelists should be aware about what is happening within the local arts & cultural community, with an understanding of what the community needs are as well as projects that would benefit both the community and applicant.

  • Be clear communicators; panelists should be able to effectively communicate about the applications being presented as well as clearly express why they believe a project should receive funding or be deny funding

  • Be team players; grant panels are made up of groups of different individuals and funding is decided by a group consensus vote, with that in mind being a team player is a must!

  • Have a clear understanding on what makes for successful projects, such as project feasibility.

If you are interested in sitting as a panelist of if you would like to nominate someone else, please fill out this form.
